What East Hampton does to a window
The village estate section is the saltiest glass on the East End. Lily Pond Lane, Further Lane, West End Road and the homes around Georgica Pond and Hook Pond face the Atlantic with nothing in the way, and a south wind dries a white salt film on the ocean side of the house within a week of a cleaning. A nor'easter carries the spray across the village to Main Street and leaves a hard white line that rain does not rinse off. Summer humidity keeps it soft, and the blowing sand off Main Beach and Georgica Beach scratches the lower panes on windy afternoons.
North of the highway it is the woods. Northwest Woods, Hands Creek, Northwest Harbor and the lots off Three Mile Harbor Road sit under pitch pines and oaks that drop yellow pollen from late April into June and needles and sap for the rest of the year, and the deep shade keeps north-facing glass damp through the humid months. The big window walls on the modern houses show every bit of it. Montauk Highway, Route 114 and Three Mile Harbor Road get salted and brined all winter, and plow spray leaves a de-icing haze on the front glass of homes near them.
Oceanfront and pond-front homes in the estate section and on Georgica Pond do best every two months, and many go monthly in summer. Harbor-front homes on Three Mile Harbor and Northwest Harbor do the same. Homes in the village and in Northwest Woods do well quarterly, with the inside glass done once a year either way. After that, a quarterly maintenance plan runs $60, $77, or $100 a month for those same home sizes. Oceanfront and riverfront estates get a custom quote.
How often should windows be cleaned in East Hampton?
Every two months for oceanfront and pond-front homes in the estate section, on Georgica Pond or on Three Mile Harbor, where salt builds up fast on the water side. Quarterly for homes in the village and in Northwest Woods, which keeps pine pollen, road salt haze and mildew under control. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.
Do you work in condo and HOA buildings?
Yes. We work in the Settlers Landing and Hands Creek property owners associations, on the private lanes in the estate section, and in the condo buildings in the village with front-desk or fob access. Just add us to your gate list or tell us the procedure when you book.
Can you remove hard water spots from sprinklers?
In most cases, yes. Mineral spots from sprinkler overspray need a dedicated treatment rather than regular cleaning. Tell us about them on the quote form and we will look at them on the first visit.
